COMUNICAR

COMMUNICATE

www.expocomunica.com.pt

THE PATHS OF COMMUNICATION HAVE ALWAYS BEEN OPEN AND CHALLENGING. THEY MAY INVOLVE DISCOVERING THE OTHER, WHETHER HE IS ON OUR DOORSTEP OR AT THE FAR REACHES OF THE GALAXY, OR TECHNOLOGICAL INVENTIONS THAT HAVE ALWAYS ALLOWED MAN TO REACH FURTHER AND FASTER. THE SAME CAN BE SAID OF THIS EXHIBITION, WHICH WE INVITE YOU TO VISIT: OUR AIM IS FOR THE VISITOR TO REFLECT UPON A THEME THAT IS A KEY PART OF THE WORLD WE LIVE IN AND IN THE LIVES OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US.

Exhibition display

1. House of Communication

This first area looks at the Oporto Customs House as a metaphor for communication, in a double sense: firstly, the connections it enabled between the city, the region and other points in the world; but, secondly, the barriers it raised against this communication (by applying tariffs on the entry and exit of goods and the surveillance methods used to prevent smuggling).

2. Senses Alert

An area where natural mechanisms of communication are explored: in other words, the five senses of the human body (hearing, smell, touch, taste and sight), as well as other forms of communication among various living beings.

3. The Message

The main focus of this area is the evolution of various forms and codes of communication, in addition to their individual and collective importance over time. On the other hand, it also considers the processes and mechanisms that create difficulties and barriers to communication.

5. Bacia do Douro: Bacia Física e Hidrográfica, mas também Bacia Cultural

Understanding the Douro Basin as a physical, hydrographic and cultural basin, this exhibition addresses the connections between Oporto and its World Heritage Historic Centre and nine other sites classified by UNESCO found along the Douro, from source to mouth.
