Panel "Ribeira Negra"

Painted by Jślio Resende

Composed of 40 panels, 3 feet high by 1meter wide, this piece is one of the great tests for tile panel Black Riverside, located at the eastern entrance of the tunnel Ribeira. The original idea came from a suggestion of conductor Álvaro Salazar, at the time director of the International Symposium of Musical Workshop.
Conceived in 1984, in just 10 days, and in confined working conditions, this work of art began to be exposed in the Cooperativa Árvore and then at the Mercado Ferreira Borges.

Within two years, Júlio Resende performed a series of studies: one dated about 1985 (craft paper, watercolor on, 34X269 cm, Collection of the author); also another 1985 (tracing paper, ink wash and watercolor, china, X390 37.5 cm, Collection of the author), and a third one in 1986 (vellum, ink-the-china and colored pencils on, 32X277 cm, Collection of the Lugar do Desenho Foundation).

In 1986, the panel in ceramic glaze on stoneware was created. The opening ceremony was on the 21st June in 1987.
