MUSEUM GOES OUTDOORS
By its own initiative or under different institutions´ invitation (schools, libraries, associations, etc.), the Museum goes outside sharing its program with the community.
Multimedia presentations, games, representative pieces from its legacy (scales, stamps, automobile miniatures) illustrate and brighten these outdoor visits.
This year, in the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day celebrated on 17th May,the Museum went to the Agrupamento de Escolas de Arcozelo, Ponte de Lima, for a lecture dedicated to the theme of Telecommunications.
PARTICIPATION IN INTERNACIONAL ASSOCIATIONS
IATM – International Association of Transport and Communications Museums - www.iatm.museum
A worldwide association, created in 1968, of museums that collect, interpret and promote material and information on transport and communications. Due to its importance, IATM integrates the ICOM – International Council of Museums.
The Museum integrates this association since 1994 and regularly participates in the Annual Conference and the General Meeting.
Since 2015, the Museum of Transport and Communications is a member of IATM Board.
The Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne and the Museum of Communication in Berne welcomed the 2017 IATM Conference under the theme “Museum 4.0 – Digital opportunities for Transport and Communication Museums”.
IACM – International Association of Customs Museums - www.customsmuseums.org
Formed in Denmark in 1993, it has today 16 member countries. Its mission is the preservation and promotion of customs heritage in a world in fast transformation.
The Museum is part of this association that congregates several European customs museums, since 2009, and plays as representative of Portugal through the project “Metamorphosis of a Place: Customs House Museum”.
The Museum regularly participates in the Association’s work, by sharing information and experiences or being present in the Annual Conference and General Meeting.
The 25th IACM Conference and General Assembly took place in Lugano, Switzerland, in September 2017, organized by the Swiss Customs Museum, under the theme “Customs Museums – between the past and the present”.

National Historic Centre Day 2017
Under the theme of Heritage and the Urban Landscape, the historic visit left from Passeio das Virtudes, crossed old alleys and narrow streets revisiting their legends and traditions, and reaching the Custom’s House Building at the end.

The museum goes out of doors exploring the neighbourhood – Miragaia. The history, the legends, the commercial activities, the workers... all together help to create an excellent journey through the narrow streets of Miragaia.
